It’s funny how the Universe works. I visited a psychic a year ago and she told me that I would meet an enlightened master that would awaken my heart chakra and sure enough, on Valentines Day of this year, I met Dr Pradeep Ullal at a yoga festival here in Dubai.
You may have already read about my first two encounters with my guru, as he happens to be one of the few Himalayan yogis able to activate the Kundalini Shakipat through initiation or transmissions.
In a nutshell, Kundalini is the divine force energy that exists in all of us. The Yoga Upanishads describe Kundalini as lying coiled at the base of the spine, like a sleeping serpent waiting to be awakened. Many self-realised yogis say it is a creative intelligence that ignites the fire and kinetic energy of prana upwards which helps you to attain union with such a magnetic power source. This is regarded as the fastest way to attain awareness of the true nature of the self (aka the soul).
Some warn against stirring it up, while others rave about its life-transforming effects. Sometimes music, dance or yoga can arouse this mighty force but unless we activate this sacred energy, it usually remains dormant at the base of our spine throughout our lifetime. The Satcakra-nirupana describes Kundalini like this: “She is beautiful as a chain of lightning and fine as a lotus fibre and shines in the minds of the sages. She is extremely subtle, the awakener of pure knowledge, the embodiment of bliss, whose true nature is pure consciousness.”
One thing is also clear – there is much mystery surrounding the topic of Kundalini. There are also many misconceptions. In fact, if you google the topic, it’s enough to scare you away since the listed side-effects include confusion, hypersensitivity to cold and heat, heart palpitations, headaches and even depression.
When I ask Yogi Pradeep about this, he says that it is important to have a self-realised teacher to guide you through a Kundalini Awakening, so that the process feels safe: “Some people try to awaken and raise the Kundalini energy without dissolving their fears and cleansing their subtle channels in order for the rising to happen smoothly,” he explains. “It’s like trying to fit a Rolls Royce engine into a Nissan Tida – it’s too much to handle. You need to prepare and detox your system first. Kundalini will not rise if the body is not ready.”
Hence cleansing routines, a balance of energies, trust, acceptance, determination and patience are key factors on this path of ascension. If you genuinely want to heighten your frequency levels, you should readily accept an honest appraisal of your current state of preparedness and pursue the yogic path with intense commitment and consistency.
Yogi Pradeep has created a powerful cleansing process, which is practised by thousands of his students. It’s called Sampoorna Shakti Sadhana (complete preparation for energy uprising). This routine enables aspirants to awaken their entire physical and subtle body, prana, chakras, elemental forces, heart and brain.
The underlining factor about this cosmic energy is that ‘with power comes responsibility’. According to him, Kundalini transmissions occur when compassion from higher beings are showered on an aspirant that is ready to rise in awareness and is willing to give back to humanity, rather than lust after self-glorification.
