Being a cosmic girl, I’ve always been fascinated with the third eye. For those in the dark, our third eye (aka the psychic chakra) refers to our invisible eye which provides perception beyond the ordinary. The third eye acts as a spiritual antenna, your link to higher dimensions – it is responsible for out-of-body experiences, seeing auras and reaching an enlightened state of cosmic consciousness. When the third eye is opened, the pineal gland (located at the centre of your brain) is activated. The French philosopher Descartes described the pineal gland as ‘the seat of the soul’. Sometimes intense meditation can awaken your third eye, but in the average person, the pineal gland will lie dormant throughout his or her life.
Amazingly, the third eye can be stimulated using a cutting-edge machine called Lucia No 3. This trippy device (which costs an arm and a leg) was created by an Austrian neurologist, Dr Dirk Proeckl and a clinical psychologist, Dr Engelbert Winkler. It works by affecting alpha brain waves and stimulating your pineal gland, which in turn secretes DMT (dimethyltryptamine) a natural psychedelic hormone, also referred to as the spirit molecule. DMT has profound effects on human consciousness and mystics say it represents the entering and exiting of our soul, since it is secreted at the time of birth and at the time of death. DMT has healing properties and brings about intense visualisations, enhances creativity and boost levels of intuition.
Knowing all of this, I was excited to test this innovative light machine. So with my eyes closed, I sit back on the sofa wearing headphones (The Doors and Empire of the Sun are on my playlist) while the facilitator switches on the machine and a bright white light bounces off my forehead. My DMT trip starts with a slow dance of flickering bright amorphous shapes – orange, yellow, purple and green patterns appear through my eyelids. It’s as if I’m on a roller coaster surfing through a kaleidoscopic countryside, next I’m floating on clouds and then flying through space. Almost like Sandra Bullock in the movie Gravity. While the doors of perception are opening, a warm, fuzzy feeling takes over. While Lucia No 3 offers a 30 minute hallucinatory experience, the effects last up to three weeks. And the fun begins when you go home and fall asleep that night. Your dreams are taken to the next level.
I had the most vivid dreams I’ve ever experienced in my life. Usually I forget dreams when I wake up, but these visions seem to stick in your memory for longer. My first dream depicted a sunny planet with happy people, taken over by tsunamis, hurricanes and earthquakes. Seemingly, a stark reminder of the fragility of our planet. A week later and I was still having lucid dreams. It feels as if you’re half awake too, because you’re in theta mode, where your mind’s most deep-seated programmes are stored. By the end of the third week, I was longing for a dreamless, deep slumber. Thankfully, everything returns to normal within a month. For me, this mind-bending, astral-inspired cosmic journey was a life-changing experience. Questions arise as to what state of consciousness is really real – the waker, dreamer or deep-sleeper? Is the world a mere illusion?
I’m grateful to Clear Light Foundation for introducing me to Lucia No 3. Have you already had an amazing, third eye experience? I’d love to hear about it!
Sweet dreams,
