‘We are drawn to people whose issues fit perfectly with our own in a way that guarantees a re-enactment of the old familiar struggles we grew up with. If we try and get them to change, we’ll just repeat the drama. When we wake up and change our position in the old drama, that’s mature love’
Terry Real
Relational Life Therapy is the work of internationally respected family therapist Terry Real. The New York Times described Terry’s work as ‘A critical contribution to feminist psychology that brings the men’s movement a significant step forward.’
Using Terry’s Real rigorous common-sense model, I teach couples practical skills on how to be more relational and cherishing in their relationships. And in the process, we do family of origin work as well as a process called joining through the truth. Couples often make tremendous, sustainable behavioral shifts that can sometimes include overcoming ‘better than’ grandiosity and ‘less than’ shame, so they can experience more intimacy and a deeper emotional connection.
