*At the OTB Market (supporting new, alternative concepts) in Downtown Dubai, I came across a gorgeous fair-trade fashion label called Kaleidoscope by Mimi. The hip, supersized Stitch of Hope clutch in the above photo was handcrafted by poor women from India – thanks to a charitable programme called Food for Life Vrindavan that offer embroidery courses to those with minimal employment prospects. I love knowing this clutch was created with the intention of sustaining a community. I don’t think any of us want to buy accessories that are created in sweatshop factory conditions, although sadly many major fashion labels still operate like this. To order one of these stylish, ethical clutches, either pop down to Boom and Mellow or order one online. Go to www.kaleidoscopebymimi.com
*I’m a fan of turbans and the beautiful one I’m wearing above is from Hats by Nadege. These chic, boho-inspired creations are handmade by a talented, bohemian French friend who sources super soft ethical cotton and crafts her headscarves, turbans and hats with pure passion. And Nadege always wears her own designs – a true testament to her authenticity. You can purchase Hats by Nadege at ARTE (the Arts & Crafts Market at Times Square Centre in Dubai) or get in touch with the designer via her Hats by Nadege Facebook page.
*I’m looking forward to attending the Colour for Wellness workshop this Saturday 31st January at Spadunya. The holistic therapist and Altearah Bio International Trainer, Danica Horakova will explain how we can use different colours and essential oils to benefit our mental and physical health. Each colour has an impact upon our psyche – for instance, the colour violet is known to induce an instant calming effect. For more info or to book please call Spadunya on 04 4298662.
*I’m a big believer in the effects of positive and negative energy. Creating positive chi in your home and workspace is a skill – there’s an art and scientific element to it. To learn more about this Chinese science and how to create harmony in your everyday living environment, I recommend the Universal Feng Shui workshop on 2nd February (from 10am until 2pm at The Warehouse) with Master Consultant Samita Khanna. During this workshop you’ll discover valuable tips and taboos in Feng Shui (including The Five Elements and Eight Directions) in the company of a bunch of fun, friendly women. For further info please call Therese Foot on 050 653 5231 or email theresefoot@gmail.com
*My first ever Chakradance Workshop at Eco Yoga Sanctuary on Saturday 28th February. Chakradance is a dance practice for the soul via freestyle dance, guided imagery, mandala art and meditation. We move to music created to resonate with the vibrations of each of our seven major chakras. Drawing on the ancient wisdom of the chakra system and Jung Psychology, this self-healing dance is designed to release memories stored in our muscles and to get in touch with our true, authentic self. Mandala art is a way of anchoring our self-discovery back into the conscious world. Either get in touch with me or to book go to www.eys.ae or call 04 385 6633.
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
Love,
