*Last Friday, I was invited to the desert for an unconventional evening of personal coaching. So around 3.30pm we leisurely dune bashed our way towards a tranquil spot in the heart of the desert. Then, surrounded by pristine golden sand dunes, our Swedish coach Oskar Andermo introduced the seminar – how to set goals to achieve success in all areas of your life. Combining neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) with the law of attraction, personal development psychology and Olympic mental training, he talked about the benefits of not just visualizing but actually taking action to create your own future. As the sun set, we found a space on the sand dunes and wrote down our own personal goals for 2015 and beyond. It was highly therapeutic to do this in front of a stunning sunset. Later we enjoyed more tips from Oskar (over a BBQ) before sitting around a toasty campfire (the desert temperatures drop significantly after 7pm). It was incredibly bonding and super relaxing sharing stories around a campfire. A few us stayed behind to do a bit of star gazing before heading back to the city. *It was my friend Camilla’s birthday (my Mind, Body, Soul retreat buddy) and so, a group of yoginis spent around one hour out on the Arabian sea doing some Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP). I discovered it’s a brilliant way of boosting your sense of balance (and it’s fun falling into the sea too!) as well as toning your core – we ended up SUPing around the Burj Al Arab before returning for a cup of chai and homemade brownies, lemon (tree pose-shaped!) biscuits. A super fun day! I highly recommend the Surf House to all your water babies. Go to www.surfingdubai.com
*Over the last couple of months I’ve been on a de-cluttering mission. It’s amazing how much stuff we accumulate – things we might buy on a whim but are of little use. And I also came across a few things that are taboo for positive chi flow around your home. For instance, in my recent Feng Shui workshop (at The Warehouse) I learnt that dry flowers, any photos of Egyptian Pharaohs (and the like) should all be binned immediately. Anything representative of death is not ideal in your home! It feels incredibly liberating getting rid of stuff and creating more space in your home. So, this Saturday myself and a friend are heading down to the Dubai Flea Market at Zabeel Park to sell a few of our pre-loved items. And on Friday morning, I’ll be checking out the fabulous stalls at Ripe Market.
*I can’t wait for this year’s YogaFest (a free sustainable community event that brings teachers and students together for great causes) on February 19th – 21st February. Expect lots of diverse types of yoga, meditation and much more. This event has really grown into a community that celebrates holistic, healthy wellbeing. To register go to www.yogafest.me.
*I’m excited about my first Chakradance workshop, taking place at Eco Yoga Sanctuary on Saturday, 28th February at 2pm. Blending free-flowing movements with particular frequencies of sound, Chakradance will free the energy in your body, creating a deeper connection with true self. In a darkened room, we move to music created to resonate with the vibrations of each of our 7 major chakras. This dance practice for the soul begins with a short meditation and ends with mandala art. All levels and ages are welcome and there’s an early bird discount if you book now. To book call 04 385 6633 or email enquiry@eys.ae
